THE WEEK AHEAD

COMPANIES: A slow week at last for company results. Financial services giant Absa will release annual figures a week tomorrow.

Monday: Rainbow Chicken interims, Barlows finals.

Tuesday: Tongaat-Hulett, Medi-Clinic interims.

Wednesday: Tiger Oats finals, Dorbyl interims, Storeco interims.

Thursday: Specialty, Forim Holdings interims.

Friday: None due.

INFLATION SEEN STEADY: October consumer price inflation will be released on Thursday, with forecasts for little change from September's 9.1% annual rise.

US RATE CUT?: The US Federal Open Market Committee meets on Tuesday in what should be the biggest test for markets next week. A rate cut is on the cards, but if this fails to materialise, there is a risk of a global sell-off.

NEW LISTINGS: The market correction appears to have created only a short delay in the new listings rush, with at least four due this week.

Monday: EC-Hold, the information security specialist, will list 26-million shares on the Development Capital Market tomorrow following a placement of 6-million shares at 100c. The company has developed specialist proprietary technology and also has access to foreign principals.

Coronet Capital lists in the banks and financial services sector after a private placing of 38-million ordinary shares at 130c each in September.

Tuesday: Maxtec comes to the electronics and electrical board, listing 66-million shares after a placement of 13.2-million shares at 100c. It has secured an option to subscribe for 20% of Sagitta, a data-storage solutions company in the UK.

Wednesday: Dectronic will list on the venture capital board after a private placing of 10-million shares at 50c each.

Thursday: OSI Holdings will list 57-million shares in the Electronics sector following a private placement of 12-million shares at 100c. Women Investment Portfolio Holdings is both a 20% shareholder and strategic partner.

Friday: None due.

DEFENCE EXPO: Tuesday sees the start of the Defence Exposition of SA at Waterkloof Air Force base for four days. The winners of SA's defence procurement orders could be announced. Coupled with the orders is a hefty counter-trade requirement that could see SA reap double the outlay in inward investment.

CLINTON IN JAPAN: US President Bill Clinton visits Japan on Tuesday to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi. The trip follows his attendance of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) forum in Malaysia.
