Ratings agency Moody's gave government and the Reserve Bank a significant vote of confidence by reaffirming its investment grade rating of SA's foreign debt. But after the recent market carnage, the Reserve Bank sticks to prudent policy.

A meagre 20% of local unit trust funds managed to stay in the black as the stock market crash shattered the latest quarter's performance figures. Of the 174 unit trusts in the market - across all sectors from equity to money market - only 35 gave their investors a positive return for the three months ending September 30.
