Mobile PC users get performance boostBUILDING on the broad and rapid market adoption of Pentium II processor-based mobile PCs, Intel Corporation this month introduced its highest performance mobile Pentium II processor. The new mobile 300MHz Pentium II processor offers mobile PC users a performance boost while preserving system battery life. As part of Intel's strategy to deliver specific products for different market segments, mobile Pentium II processors are designed to address the unique physical size, thermal and power consumption requirements of mobile PCs. For example, the company's mobile Pentium II processors incorporate innovative technology called Quick Start, which drops the processor power consumption to 0,4 watts when the mobile PC is inactive. This low-power mode preserves battery life. Additionally, since the mobile 300MHz Pentium II processor is based on the same P6 micro-architecture, packaging and thermal specifications as the 233MHz and 266MHz mobile Pentium II processors, the newest mobile processor requires no new system design engineering for PC makers to incorporate it into new mobile systems. "We have seen exceptional market acceptance of Pentium II processor-based mobile PCs," said Robert Jecmen, vice-president and general manager of Intel Mobile and Handheld Products Group. "The 300MHz Pentium II processor offers investment protection for new mobile PC buyers who can be confident that their system's performance capability is best suited to take advantage of demanding applications today and in the future." Mobile PCs equipped with the 300MHz Pentium II processor are available in a variety of shapes and sizes ranging from less than 2kg thin and light systems to mainstream and full-size mobile PCs.
