Efficient distribution the keyCOMPANIES today operate in an environment of growing competition, shrinking cycle times and accelerating technological change. To stay competitive they are increasingly forced to streamline their businesses and focus on core competencies. One key factor in maintaining a competitive edge and improving both profit margins and customer service is to increase efficiency in distribution, says Eveline Schultz, Baan ERP consultant at Baan SA.
"Improving the delivery process allows companies to anticipate and respond quickly to customers' needs," she says. That is where Baan can help. "The distribution component of our enterprise resource planning (ERP) software suite, BaanERP Distribution, enables deliveries to be precisely planned and can even generate replenishment orders." The system, part of the BaanSeries of software components, can be quickly installed and implemented and is easily integrated with existing applications. Using BaanERP Distribution, companies are able to get a good overview of distribution processes, and change them if necessary without disrupting operations. "The system will manage the entire sales and purchase process from start to finish, as well as provide information about warehouse inventory levels at more than one site," says Schultz. Customers can also be supplied with a range of tools to manage the daily operational needs of single or multiple warehouses. "Baan's applications allow companies to manage their sales operations efficiently, managing everything from quotes, orders and contracts to prices and customer discounts," says Schultz.
The system also includes a report function allowing customers to evaluate sales performance and retrieve current and past information on orders, cancellations, budgets and revenues. Employee and supplier commissions, as well as customer bonuses and rebates, can be calculated automatically, while electronic data exchange allows everyone in the company's supply chain to communicate more effectively.
Warehouse management is another Baan speciality.
The Baan Warehouse Management application includes inventory planning, which enables the accurate forecasting of trends and adjustment of reordering points, safety stock, lead times of orders and service levels. Inventory handling allows all warehouse orders to be monitored.
