Internet courier on course

SOFTWARE giant Microsoft and Britain's Royal Mail postal service are expected to announce a new global Internet city-to-city document service in April.

The service, which will offer fast, secure electronic transmission and postal hand delivery, is likely to be a potential competitor for some existing courier businesses, sources said.

Microsoft and Royal Mail have already called a London news conference for next Thursday to announce "the launch of a new joint service".

A Royal Mail spokesman said he was unable to comment further at this stage on the proposed move, but added: "It would be an exciting service of great interest . . . and would be extremely useful, especially in terms of communication." - Reuters - Reuters
