Easy way to keep finances in checkALTHOUGH Brilliant Accounting is the locally produced software at the core of BBS's business, the company is also the SA distributor of the world's best-selling personal finance software, as well as a unique legal software package. Quicken is the world's best-selling personal finance package with 80% of the US market and more than 9-million users worldwide. Says BBS sales director Pete Whalley: "The trademark of the package, which comes on disk or CD-ROM format, is its ease of use due to graphical representation. This means you don't have to be a financial guru to use the software. "Quicken 6 Deluxe, the CD-ROM version, introduces multimedia learning tools to enable new users to become productive even faster. "Quicken emulates the way people organise their finances and helps them keep control of their current accounts, mortgage bonds, personal loans, savings accounts, credit cards, insurance policies and debit orders. More importantly, the package also enables users to plan for the future by projecting the amounts they need to save for certain projects like holidays or education, and what their policies will be worth in years to come." Although Quicken is sourced from the US company, Intuit, the package has been customised for the SA market. VAT is set at 14% and the package has the correct currency markings. At the same time, Quicken has a multicurrency facility such as dollar amounts for users who invest offshore, and can translate these amounts into rands in real time. Quicken Deluxe comes with two additional Intuit programs - Quicken Home Inventory and QuickInvoice. Says Whalley: "Quicken Home Inventory is ideal for tracking and controlling an inventory of your home contents. It also helps you to plan your household insurance and takes the hassle factor out of filing insurance claims as you keep a list of the value of your assets and serial numbers." QuickInvoice works with Quicken and generates invoices quickly. It keeps you in control of all money owed and keeps track of outstanding accounts. Quicken is ideal for personal finance usage at home, but can be upgraded to QuickBooks, for small to medium-sized businesses, and Brilliant Accounting, a more advanced package.
LegalWrite is software developed by BBS in conjunction with one of SA's leading law firms, Fluxman Rabinowitz-Raphaely Weiner. It contains more than 150 of the most common, standard legal documents such as letters of demand, settlement agreements, lease agreements, close corporation formation or dissolution, deeds of property transactions and labour relations contracts. "The new version includes documentation such as loan agreements, disciplinary codes and procedures, disciplinary action forms, partnership agreements, sale of property and lease agreements," says Whalley. "LegalWrite provides users with the necessary tools to formalise most legal transactions easily, correctly and affordably."
