A niche bank may force the big four to follow suit, despite the Reserve Bank ruling out an immediate rate cut. The Mercantile Bank has stolen a march on SA's big four banks and the Reserve Bank by independently announcing a one percentage point cut in its bond rate to 18% on Friday.
