Bank lends helping hand

STANDARD Bank is sponsoring Itrisa as part of its drive to become the recognised banking specialists in international trade.

It gives the training and education group an undisclosed lump sum each year to develop its distance learning diplomas and gives bursaries to staff members who do Itrisa courses.

Owen Tidbury, director of Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank's international division, says: "We are lending our support because we believe in what Itrisa is doing and because its courses are ideally suited to the main focus of our business."

To improve its services Standard Bank began, at the beginning of this year, to centralise its trade related activities into eight international business centres in major cities around South Africa.

"They will become one-stop trade shops," says Tidbury.
