Coega waits for the state's move

NATIONAL and provincial ministers and executives will meet in Cape Town on Wednesday to determine the fate of the planned multimillion rand deep water port and industrial development zone at Coega near Port Elizabeth, writes DON ROBERTSON.

Government has committed itself to the port and development zone project by appointing a ministerial executive to drive the project.

The aim is to build a deep-water port at a cost of about R1-billion and an industrial development zone between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown at a cost of R500-million. The project is expected to create 26 000 jobs during the three-year construction period.
