Stals shock - rates set to rise in wake of credit spree

RESERVE Bank governor Chris Stals sent out an unequivocal message on Friday that interest rates are set to rise.

His warning - that he could tighten monetary policy in order to stop the growth in credit demand - caused a stir in financial markets, which had widely expected a drop in interest rates of one or two percentage points this year.
