Harber leaves the Mail

MAIL & Guardian editor Anton Harber is leaving the paper he co-founded in 1985 to become chief executive of New Radio Consortium, the owner of East Coast radio and Radio Oranje, writes ZILLA EFRAT.

Harber will continue his involvement with the newspaper as editorial director. David Beresford, the long-serving correspondent of The Guardian of London, steps in as acting editor while the paper seeks a new editor.

Current managing director Mike Martin - previously tipped to head BDFM Publishers, a joint venture between Times Media and Pearsons plc - has been appointed chief executive of M&G Media. Both M&G and Kagiso Trust Investments, a New Radio Consortium member, have denied talk of a tie-up between the newspaper interests of M&G and Perskor, which owns the Citizen. Perskor and Kagiso are currently reworking a deal which could result in joint control of Perskor. Top of page
